Edwin Hubbel Chapin once said, “Every action of our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity.” That is the definition of a legacy. Wouldn’t you love to do something that might strike a beautiful chord that will “vibrate in eternity”?

“Suddenly I realised that I was no longer driving the car consciously. I was driving it by a kind of instinct, only I was in a different dimension…”

Ayrton Senna: A Tribute to a Champion of Champions

Ayrton 1992

“Suddenly I realised that I was no longer driving the car consciously,” he said. “I was driving it by a kind of instinct, only I was in a different dimension. It was like I was in a tunnel. Not only the tunnel under the hotel but the whole circuit was a tunnel. I was just going and going, more and more and more. I was way over the limit but still able to find even more. Then suddenly something just kicked me. I kind of woke up and realised that I was in a different atmosphere than you normally are. My immediate reaction was back off, slow down. I drove back slowly to the pits and I didn’t want to go out any more that day. It frightened me because I was well beyond my conscious understanding. It happens rarely but I keep these experiences very much alive inside me…

That’s about the best you can do as a writer, but it’s more of a cerebral thing. It doesn’t get that spiritual feeling – not for me anyway. Instead any extreme activity is probably a gateway to the realm. It shows the human being is capable of way more than you’ve ordinarily got access to.

When you read a story like Niki Lauda’s recovery, you can see what the human spirit can do, if it wants to and if the personality can direct the spirit. We’ve got remarkable resources- way more than we realise – but we are not very good at accessing them.”

‘The untapped potential in every human being is limitless: we are are perfectly capable of producing, all by ourselves, true magic.’

Writing and Formula1 (Racing + Writing in the Zone)

‘The untapped potential in every human being is limitless: we are are perfectly capable of producing, all by ourselves, true magic.’

‘The key here is the dream, rather than it’s realisation. It may not be explicable to us mere mortals, but the more I heard about this ‘Heaven on Earth’ called the Zone, the more I was convinced it is the true Holy Grail, not just for racing drivers, but for all human beings whatever we do. Finding it often enough inevitably leads to ‘winning’ in Earthly terms, but it only comes into reach when you rid yourself of the obsession with the end result. The shortcut to the Zone is to join the wimps, forget about winning and revel in the beauty of playing the game.’
